  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Diploma endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and at least 40% in Mathematics, or
  • a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and with at least an E symbol on HG in Mathematics, or
  • a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences or a Higher Certificate in Economic and Management Sciences, or an Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences.

Applicants who do not fulfil the statutory and additional requirements should consider applying for a lower-level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.

General Application Minimum Requirements For Diploma Courses At UNISA 2024-2025

National Senior Certificate (NSC):

  • Prospective students should hold an NSC, endorsed for diploma or degree studies.
  • Achieve a minimum of 30% in the English language.
  • Obtain at least 40% in three other recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.

Senior Certificate (SC):

  • This applies to students who completed their senior certificate before 2008.
  • Pass the language of teaching and learning at either HG or SG level.
  • Pass at least two subjects at HG and three other subjects at SG.

Foreign Qualifications:

  • Students with non-South African school-leaving certificates must obtain a Certificate of Evaluation from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
