UNISA Diploma Programmes Application For Admission Minimum Requirements 2024/2025
You will be admitted to Unisa if you meet the exact entrance requirements for your selected qualification.
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Diploma endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and at least 40% in Mathematics, or
- a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and with at least an E symbol on HG in Mathematics, or
- a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences or a Higher Certificate in Economic and Management Sciences, or an Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences.
Applicants who do not fulfil the statutory and additional requirements should consider applying for a lower-level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
General Application Minimum Requirements For Diploma Courses At UNISA 2024-2025
The following are the diploma course requirements needed when applying:
National Senior Certificate (NSC):
- Prospective students should hold an NSC, endorsed for diploma or degree studies.
- Achieve a minimum of 30% in the English language.
- Obtain at least 40% in three other recognized NSC 20-credit subjects.
Senior Certificate (SC):
- This applies to students who completed their senior certificate before 2008.
- Pass the language of teaching and learning at either HG or SG level.
- Pass at least two subjects at HG and three other subjects at SG.
Foreign Qualifications:
- Students with non-South African school-leaving certificates must obtain a Certificate of Evaluation from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Age Requirement:
- While UNISA is flexible about age, some faculties might have age restrictions, especially for courses that require practical training.
Specific Course Requirements:
- Apart from the general requirements, some diploma courses might have particular prerequisites, like Mathematics for a Diploma in Engineering.

Student fees and funding your studies
Application fee
- R125 for online application
- The average student registers for between 4 to 6 modules per year at a cost of between R1 815,00 and R7 550,00 per module ( these amounts are subject to change). The module costs do not include your prescribed books. Books are an additional cost that you must factor into your calculations for your full costs of study.
Pay the application fee once you’ve received your student number:
- Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)
- Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za
- Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information
Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.
