Can I Pursue a Teaching Career with a 17 APS in 2024?

The world of academia is teeming with numerical scores, qualifications, and requirements. For South African students, one crucial number that often arises during university applications is the Admission Point Score (APS). As 2024 unfolds, many wonder if an APS of 17 is sufficient to embark on a teaching journey. APS is a score that universities use to evaluate if a student qualifies for a specific course. This score is derived from a student’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) results, translating their grades into a point system.

Generally, an APS of 17, while decent, might be on the lower end for competitive courses, including some teaching programs. However, the required APS for a teaching course can vary significantly between institutions and even among different teaching specializations.
