Unisa would like to announce that the 2025 UNISA Postgraduate Bursary Application period closing date has been extended to February 2025  for all UNISA PG Diploma, Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral bursaries. The core purpose is to provide financial support to postgraduate students through a student-centred platform and assist the university in attracting and supporting postgraduate students in delivering quality research outputs. Only online applications submitted via myUnisa link will be considered. No hard copy or e-mail applications will be considered.

The postgraduate diploma and honours bursary aims to assist South African Unisa alumni students with their Unisa tuition fees, thus enabling them to register and complete their qualifications. Financial support is offered to both postgraduate diploma and honours students subject to eligibility, academic performance, and availability of funds.

When you are on the official Unisa website, you will need to go through the Bursaries and Loans section. This section will provide you with information about the various bursaries and scholarships available for students. Look for the Postgraduate Bursary option in the list of options provided. Once you find it, click on it to access the page where you can download the application form. It is important to carefully read through the instructions and requirements for the bursary before proceeding to download the form. Make sure to fill out the form accurately and provide all the necessary information.

Unisa Postgraduate Bursary Application Date 2025/2026

The 2025 UNISA Postgraduate Bursary Application period closing date has been extended to February 2025.

• PG Diploma and Honours outcomes will be communicated in the 1st week of April 2025 after the closing date of registration in March 2025
• Master’s and Doctoral outcomes will be communicated in the 1st week of April 2025 after the closing date of registration in March 2025
• Please note the 2025 PG Bursary applications will be inactive when the University closes in December 2024 and will be re-active when the university opens in January 2025 until the closing date of the bursary applications.

Who Can Apply For Unisa Postgraduate Bursary 2025/2026

• Returning PG Diploma/ Honours bursary beneficiaries who are re-applying as required by the bursary guidelines, terms and conditions
• Only South African (citizens) UNISA NQF level 7 undergraduate alumni who have completed their degree/advanced diploma (by 31 January 2025) and attained an average of 60% on their entire undergraduate qualification are eligible to apply.
• South African PG Diploma/ Honours students in their second year of study who have passed at least three postgraduate modules in the same Postgraduate qualification, with an average of 60% on their entire postgraduate qualification.

Who Can NOT Apply For Unisa Postgraduate Bursary 2025/2026

• UNISA permanent staff members.
• Graduate School of Business Leadership students registered for:
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management
• Students registered for special study programmes, including certificates (PGCE) and non-degree purpose programmes are not eligible for this bursary.
• Students who already hold a postgraduate degree at the same or a higher NQF level than the qualification registered are not eligible for this bursary.

What Does The Apply Unisa Postgraduate Bursary Fund 2025/2026

• The bursary covers tuition fees only
• The award funds students for the first TWO consecutive years of study
• The bursary does NOT cover failed/ repeating modules
• The bursary does NOT cover historic debt.
• Note that awarding will be provided from the highest to the lowest performing student subject to the availability of funds, as per average calculation on the entire undergraduate qualification/ 3 honours modules.

• Visit the Official Unisa Website: Go to Unisa’s official website.
• Access the Financial Aid Section: Head to the ‘Student Funding’ or ‘Financial Aid’ section.
• Select Postgraduate Bursaries: Within this section, look for ‘Postgraduate Bursaries’ or a similar category.
• Download the Application Form: There should be a link or button that says “Download Application Form” for the 2024/2025 academic year. Click on it.
• Save and Print: Once downloaded, save the form to your device and consider printing a copy for offline completion.
