Grade R Teaching At Unisa Qualification Admission Requirements
You will be admitted to Unisa if you meet the exact entrance requirements for your selected qualification.
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least a 40% in the language of teaching and learning, or
- a Level 4 National Certificate (Vocational) with a diploma entry endorsement or equivalent and at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning. A Level 4 or Level 5 Certificate, or
- a Diploma in Early Development may also be presented for admission and assessment pertaining to advanced credit standing with appropriate subject combinations and levels of achievement, as prescribed by institutions accredited to offer learning programmes that lead to the attainment and awarding of the qualification.
Grade R Teaching At Unisa Application Fee 2024/2025
Once you’ve received your student number, pay the application fee:
- R125 for online applications
- Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)
- Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za
- Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information
Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.

Who Can Register For Grade R Teaching At Unisa?
- Applicants (new applicants & Unisa students who applied for admission to a new qualification) may only register if they have received an offer of placement from Unisa and have accepted the offer online. Unisa reserves the right to not process and/or cancel your registration if it is found that you were incorrectly admitted to a qualification.
- Re-registering students may register for the 2024 academic year once the registration period opens.
Please note: Should you wish to start a new qualification, please apply online for the alternative qualification during the prescribed application period.
